TEXAS INSECTS
SOUTH TEXAS INSECTS -- RESACA DE LA PALMA
The insects in the slide show below are many (and I mean many!), but not all, of the insects I photographed in 5 days at the end of October 2013 at the Resaca de la Palma in Brownsville.
The year 2013 was incredible, absolutely mind-boggling, for insects. The variety, the beauty, the abundance, the uniqueness of the insects we saw was phenomenal. Even in our area (Washington D.C.), which is only fair on an insecting scale, we saw interesting, beautiful, incredible insects, most of which we had never seen before.
South Texas is always good for insects, particularly in late October through early November, when they come up from South and Central America, but in 2013 the insects were falling out of the foliage. You needed to walk or move only a few inches and you would find another beauty!
These slide show photos were taken at the Resaca, but other South Texas centers such as the fabulous National Butterfly Center, in Mission, and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, in Austin, were also exploding with insects in 2013.
